Explore stunning scenery in an overland adventure as you are expertly driven through high country farmland on the cusp of the National Park

Discover the heart of the Mackenzie basin with a guided off-road experience. Our expert driver guides know this land intimately. They share its stories, offering a deep connection to the mountains, valleys and people who shaped this region.

Depart from the Hermitage Hotel in a custom built Mercedes Unimog, designed for comfort, stability and true off-road capability. This journey takes you into the Top Block of Glentanner Station, an exclusive stretch of high-country terrain normally unseen by visitors.

You’ll follow parts of the original road once used to reach Mt Cook Village, tracing the footsteps of early explorers and those who worked these remote landscapes. Along the way, glacial riverbeds, sweeping tussock plains and alpine ridgelines set the scene for tales of pioneering days, local legends and life in this remarkable valley.

At the heart of the journey is our custom-built 4WD vehicle, engineered for the backcountry. Each guest enjoys a full-suspension individual seat, designed to keep the ride smooth even across the roughest ground. Large panoramic windows, including overhead viewing panels, open up uninterrupted vistas of Aoraki/Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki and the Tasman Valley, making every stretch of the journey part of the experience.

This experience blends adventure, heritage and comfort in a way only the Hermitage can offer. Every detail is crafted to bring the land to life.

This is off-road touring in its finest form. Settle in, hold tight and let the mountains guide the way.
